HRDB to Host Discussion on Airport Harassment and Passenger Rights in Bangladesh

Human Rights and Development for Bangladesh (HRDB) will host a live discussion on “Harassment at Bangladesh Airports: Passenger Rights and Accountability” on Saturday, October 17, 2026, to highlight concerns about passenger treatment, protection of belongings, and accountability at the country’s airports.
Passengers have reported various forms of alleged harassment at Bangladesh airports, including rude and disrespectful behavior, missing belongings, damaged luggage, unnecessary delays, and demands for bribes. Such experiences raise concerns about passenger rights, institutional accountability, and the need for effective complaint mechanisms.
The discussion will also highlight the challenges faced by Bangladeshi migrant workers returning from the Middle East. Despite their significant contributions to the national economy through remittances, many returning migrant workers face difficulties during their journeys home. Foreign visitors experiencing similar problems may also develop negative perceptions of Bangladesh, potentially affecting the country’s international reputation.
The discussion will examine these concerns and explore possible measures to promote dignified treatment, protect passengers’ belongings, strengthen accountability, and improve the overall airport experience in Bangladesh.
The session will feature Dr. Nakibur Rahman, Professor of Finance at North Carolina University, and Dr. Sibbir Ahmad, Assistant Professor of Economics at North South University.
